A few steps down is all it takes here, to be transported back in time to the reign of Rudolf ll - when Prague was the centre of the Holy Roman Empire. An unpararelled time of magic and alchemy when the Emperor would fund scientific research to discover the secret of transforming base metal to gold. While the mythical Golem, created by the famous
Rabi Jehuda Low, stood guard over the citys’ Jewish quarter - where this restaurant is located.
The exposed brick walls, vaulted ceiling, timber floor and subdued lighting create a curios and mysterious atmosphere. Alcoves are filled with Alchemists equipment while the stained glass depicts them hard at work in flowing gowns. Traditional Czech cuisine is the order of the day here in the form of, for example,
roast duck and lamb with dumplings. All
washed down with the most famous of all, magical, Czech elexirs - beer!
